So, I was face-timing with my cousin Lee last week and he was seeing an image of my computer on his iPhone. He saw a screenshot of my Blogger analytics (the back-end statistical data of my blog) and he said, “Wow—you’ve got a hockey stick there!” I had no idea what he meant but have since learned that hockey stick growth refers to the visual of a rapid rate of increase on a graph. It looks like a hockey stick laying on its side. 

Now you know, because I said, that my tiny LEGO sewing machine was just a little daydream. No big deal. But almost 16,000 people from all over the world have visited my blog in the past two weeks to see the tutorial I posted here. I’m sure for many, many blogs that is a non-event and they see that sort of traffic in a normal week…or day…or hour. But my little blog is frequented, infrequently, mostly by my friends and a few people who are genuinely interested. But many people are here by accident.

I know this because of my analytics. If you aren’t a blogger you may not know that I can see so much cool stuff on the back-end of my blog. And you certainly wouldn’t know that in some ways it has been a form of entertainment for me.  Especially in the early days of my blog-affair, I was fascinated by the fact that…hey, someone in Australia looked at my blog! Hey, Spain! And it is fun to examine the data: which browser people are using, where do they live, how long do they spend reading the blog, which site referred them, etc. And don’t worry, bloggers can’t see the names of the people who visit them. 🙂  In the early days, I learned that most people “bounced.” They were there by accident. And that is still largely true for my little blog. And I am so cool with that. I get about 150 hits per day—tiny by all accounts. And I am grateful if anyone is interested. Truly. But if I was in it for the hits, I’d have packed up long ago.

So if a normal day is 150 hits, imagine my surprise when I posted the sewing machine tutorial and I received 5,000 hits on that post in one day. I had a hockey stick. People from all over the world have shared images of the sewing machines they have created with my tutorial. They are all awesome and adorable. It has been really fun to watch. The party is dying down now. My analytics are getting back into the hundreds. Thanks for sharing in the fun. It was like watching a scene in a feel-good movie. Glad you all liked it.
