Social media has its own lexicon of cute superlatives to express all sorts of emotions, good and bad. Favorites include: Swoon. Ack! *Faints.* Le sigh. Arrgh. Woohoo! *squeal*. And my favorite–Woot! But some occasions are so gigantic that you may need an eff bomb. As in: no effing way did that just actually happen! But I am a lady, and a southern belle by birth, and so would never utter those words, and certainly not on my blog. But hold on to your testicles because this is big: Ayumi. Ayumi Takahashi of Pink Penguin (whom you may remember from my post two days ago here about her being one of my original inspirations and reasons for getting into this whole blogging/sewing thang–yes that Ayumi). Anyway, she wrote to me a few weeks ago congratulating me on the line because we have become friends through blogging, and I have posted about her several times here. I have her book, Patchwork, Please!, sitting next to me as I type because I pre-ordered it months ago when I saw that it would be available. Ayumi is modern sewing. She is the breath in the lungs of modern sewing. She is a prescriber, no, the decider (I would say she shares this pole position with awesome Rashida Coleman-Hale) of zakka goodness and all things fabulous… lovely, quirky, & fun piecing–and fresh, use of funky text fabric. She has impeccable taste and skills. She is a total inspiration. And she is nesting! Pregnant with her first baby she really wanted to sew something with Bird Dot in the Paper colorway. So I sent her a huge stack of fabric. (My crafty superhero asked me to send one print, do ya think I’m just gonna send one print?)
Chicken Julie is good people. I met her with her LAMQG (that’s L.A. Modern Quilt Guild) posse two years ago at the Long Beach Quilt Festival where I was introducing my brand. We all bonded– Julie, Ramona (who you’ll meet in a few days), and Tess. We got along famously.
So, today we are kicking off the COLLAGE party to celebrate my new line of fabric with our first stop: Craftyblossom! (omg)... ……………. *….i just fainted, but I’m back.*
Now is the time, the time is now! Finally, after waiting nine months I can show you my new fabric line, COLLAGE, for Windham Fabrics.

Why Collage? I could have easily painted this collection, as painting is what I do and have always done. I see the world better sometimes with brush in hand. But I couldn’t paint this. I needed to bypass my normal mode to create this first line. Another of my loves, collage, jumped up and I couldn’t ignore it. So I created this line by cutting and pasting.
I know that people don’t read long blog posts but there is something on my mind.
So, there is a lot of exciting stuff going on–with my fabric and new patterns and upcoming photo shoot and a really nice interview over on the Windham blog about my inspirations here. Yes. And as a business owner and my own little ringmaster of marketing, social media, and all things buzz, it is my job to tell you all about it.
Welcome the Nest Quilt! It may just be my favorite. In this, my newest pattern, we aren’t putting a bird on it (for once). Nope. This time we are becoming the bird. This pattern really exemplifies my branding and desire to help you Celebrate your inner artist. You will need to be wild and free like a bird as you create this quilt: gathering scraps, quickly placing them, and creating your own nest. There aren’t templates for every step. You are going to have to trust the directions and trust yourself–break some rules. Just let go, be free, and fly, little birdie. 🙂

Time for yet another sneak peek! Here is the cover for the promotional material that I created for Windham Fabrics for my new line COLLAGE! It is a collage I made using the prints….see? Collage! Get it? So, those birds are part of a print and so are the cups. The rest I cut up and collaged. Can’t wait to share more soon….
