I have a thing for Rumi. He was a 12th century Sufi Mystic poet. His words ring so true today that it is almost shocking they are 800 years old. (Look for translations of his poems by Coleman Barks.) Here are a few Rumi quotes to inspire you:
“Let yourself be drawn by the stronger pull of that which you truly love.”
“Let the beauty we love be what we do.”
“In your light I learn how to love. In your beauty, how to make poems. You dance inside my chest where no-one sees you, but sometimes I do, and that sight becomes this art.”
“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”
In honor of Day 8 of my Creativity Challenge, today see the beauty all around you–really see it. Walk around your house–your yard–your family and see beyond your normal view. See beyond the familiar–the mundane–the every day. Creativity is born from dissolving your own preconceptions and seeing with fresh eyes. So, today walk through your life like this: in every moment, be new as you examine the familiar confines of your reality. Look at the shimmering beauty of your life, your stuff, your loved ones, and yourself.
From seeing that beauty and feeling the gratitude of our lives, we find a deep well of inspiration and connection. Connection and gratitude translate into creativity as we celebrate this gorgeous existence. Inspiration is EVERYWHERE! If you find a particularly inspiring moment or object in your life today, honor it by photographing it or writing about it. Do something with the beauty you see. Let it inspire you in some small or big way.
