I am gonna go #UNPLUG now. No social media for a few weeks. No Instagram. No Facebook. No Pinterest. No blogging. No compulsive checking. No dopamine uptake in my brain for a thumb or a like. No public sharing of private moments. No voyeuristic peering into the private moments of everyone else’s not-so-private lives. I’m just going to go be in my life like it was 1999… for at least three weeks. 🙂 Then I’ll be back, because I like social media.
Check out the cover article of the Jul/Aug issue of Fast Company magazine about Baratunde Thurston for some inspiration. You might just unplug, too!
I read a story recently about a Zen master (Thich Nhat Hanh) and his student. The student was eating a tangerine and chatting with his teacher about his future plans. “He popped a section [of the tangerine] in his mouth and, before he had begun chewing it, he had another slice ready to pop into his mouth again. He was hardly aware he was eating a tangerine.”
After a few bites, the teacher urged his student to just eat the tangerine…do nothing else. “It was as if he hadn’t been eating the tangerine at all. If he had been eating anything, he was ‘eating’ his future plans.”
So, I am going to go eat my tangerine–slowly and mindfully–section by section. I am going to breathe in my family. And build a tree house and do some work and feel the monsoon humidity on my dry desert skin.
The SHOP will be open and I will be shipping orders. Speaking of which, check the shop next week and you will find that the WATERCOLOR QUILT will be there.
Happy Summer!
see you on the other side…or at least at school!
