Are you ready for the new year? I’m thrilled and honored to be teaching at Craft NAPA in gorgeous Napa Valley, California at an incredible new retreat created by Pokey Bolton. She is bringing together many fabulous teachers for this event to get your creative juices flowing and help guide you into your creative passion. The teachers are textile designers, fiber artists, sewinistas, painters, mixed media artists and art quilters. During this three-day retreat, you will have the opportunity to master your skills in collage, quilting, sketching, printmaking, painting, art journaling, and mixed media, all the while enjoying outstanding cuisine and wine, too.
I do believe you guys like words and text and letters just as much as I do, and boy do I have a fun book for you. Every once in a while I have a cool opportunity from a publisher to review a book and/or do a giveaway. You know–feed the buzzmill. Sometimes the books are absolutely awesome like this one: The Art of Whimsical Lettering by Joanne Sharpe. I liked it so much when I saw it that I asked for an additional copy to give away to my readers.
Good mail day! Happy to see my Create Collage on the pages of Stitch Magazine today. I used my Collage line for Windham Fabrics to make this fun no-sew découpaged collage on canvas, but you can use any fabric you want! (Templates included.) Get your Spring 2014 issue–on stands now. There are lots of fun projects in this issue. See it here.
…and after a year of fun work,
design, planning, collaboration,
face-timing with the folks at Windham in New York,
my friends blogging, tweeting,
and me talking and talking and talking
until I have turned blue–and most definitely
a bit tired of hearing my own voice,
Time for yet another sneak peek! Here is the cover for the promotional material that I created for Windham Fabrics for my new line COLLAGE! It is a collage I made using the prints….see? Collage! Get it? So, those birds are part of a print and so are the cups. The rest I cut up and collaged. Can’t wait to share more soon….
|Be So Brave – 11″ x 15″ – January 2013 (Ink and collage on paper)|
after a long,
am painting again.
will need your help:
need reminders to
be so brave.
need to be empty.
but this time,
beginner’s mind it’s not.
for all of my love of not-knowing
how to do things,
i’m afraid i’ll have to own up
to this one-
that i know this tongue-
that this language begins
where nouns and verbs end.
and to be unafraid.
and to play.
wish me luck.
see some older work here and here.
I really can’t share a lot. And you know that it is so hard to keep a secret. And I have been patient since I finished these designs in September. Tap, tap, tap…patiently waiting. So patient. But the wonderful folks at Windham Fabrics said I could show a little, tiny peek…of my new line of fabric. And this is just a peek. And these are just strike-offs. On my bike.
