So, today we are kicking off the COLLAGE party to celebrate my new line of fabric with our first stop: Craftyblossom! (omg)... ……………. *….i just fainted, but I’m back.*
When I started sewing about four years ago, the whole thing went hand-in-hand with my late-night (pregnancy induced) blog consumption. I was reading sewing blogs, craft blogs, blog blogs, and Amalah–world’s funniest and most honest mom blogger. But I had a few first crushes. Actually, I had at least two. One was Ayumi Takahashi of Pink Penguin. The other was Erica Sage of craftyblossom. Their blogs were so lovely and white–filled with clear, gorgeous photography of their amazing and seriously cool sewn stuff. They were my original inspiration for getting into this in the first place. Their work made me want to learn to sew and to blog. The thing about blogging is that it is an open dialogue. So somehow, I left a comment on craftyblossom, or maybe she left a comment on mine, I don’t remember, but over time we became blog friends. It felt vital/alive/connected to have that dialogue. It still does.
Erica’s quilting voice is simple, clear, graphic, and unique: Josef Albers color studies meets Pantone chips meets vintage sheets found in grandma’s attic meets rockabilly meets ? What? I don’t know why I wrote that but it is so true. Her quilts speak of that modern break from the old, while at the same time completely honoring traditional pieced quilts. She is just so talented and when she wrote asking if she could sew with COLLAGE I was floored and excited. But not nearly as floored as when I received her package. Even the way it was tied with ribbon and muslin was filled with love.
And this little quilt is so different from her normal stuff. It is a hand-tied dimensional flying geese quilt. It exudes care and respect. It is like durable origami–origami you can wash. It is heavy and straight and indescribably gorgeous. It is truly incredible. And Erica used COLLAGE in an amazing and honorific way. (Thank you, Erica.) You will just have to go see for yourself on her blog here and enter her give away to win some COLLAGE!
By the way, Ayumi and I became blog friends too. You gotta go check out her new book Patchwork, Please! Mine just arrived! I just sent her some fabric too. 😉 Hi, Ayumi!
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!! that fabric.
(Did I tell you that I love it????)
Beautiful. ‘Twas a pleasure and an honor. It’s a gorgeous line, Congratulations!
I can’t believe I forgot to leave a comment on this! I already told Erica how much I love her quilt, but wanted to say that again!!
